Making the Top & Bottom

  • For the top and bottom of the stand I used the full 2"x8" width. 
  • First I cut the board into 1' long pieces. My theory for this is that the tank sides are 10.5" so there will be some overhang as long as the boards are cut greater than 10.5"
  • With the miter saw set to 30 degrees I cut both sides of the board. 
  • This was extremely fiddly and took many adjustments to get a semi decent fit.
  • I would recommend setting up a stop for the saw to ensure better fitment. 
  • Next with wood glue, clamps, and wood screws I created the Hexagon.
  • Use of a counter-sink drill bit throughout the project was key.
